ConvergeHEALTH believes in open innovation and has a long track record of supporting, implementing, and delivering open source solutions in health care including 40+ implementations of informatics for integrating biology and the bedside (i2b2) and as an initial developer/collaborator in the creation of the tranSMART platform to support translational research.
i2b2 is an open-source platform for de-identified cohort discovery, and for managing and delivering clinical data sets for research with appropriate IRB approval. Researchers can use i2b2 to perform self-service queries of de-identified data for HIPAA-compliant cohort discovery and hypothesis testing. With IRB approval, i2b2 can be used to retrieve identified data for research using queries stored from the preparatory-to-research phase. Plug-ins and extensions to i2b2 are available to add additional data capture, extraction, and analysis functionalities to the platform’s core capabilities. i2b2 is a widely accepted tool among Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) sites and other Academic Medical Centers (AMCs), and has also found increasing use at other organizations for research and clinical performance improvement initiatives.
ConvergeHEALTH provides strategy, governance, and compliance services to help organizations gain value from an i2b2 system. The ConvergeHEALTH professional open source support model can enable organizations to take advantage of the open source i2b2 platform, while having the benefits of professional planning, implementation, and software support.
The tranSMART Knowledge Management Platform combines a data repository with intuitive search capabilities and analysis tools. tranSMART provides researchers a single self-service web portal with access to phenotypic, ‘omics, and unstructured text-based data from multiple internal and external sources, aligned to allow exploration of many aspects of a potential hypothesis. tranSMART can help scientists develop and refine research hypotheses by investigating correlations between genetic and phenotypic data, and assessing their analytical results in the context of published literature and other work.
ConvergeHEALTH’s professional open source support can enable tranSMART users to combine the benefits of open source software applications with the quality, reliability, and consistency of commercial services for implementation, network management, support, and maintenance.
Profiles Research Networking Software1 (Profiles RNS) is a web-based tool for social networking and experience mining. Profiles RNS imports and analyzes data to build and maintain a searchable library of individual web-based electronic CV’s, creating an effective social networking resource for research collaboration. The platform includes network analysis and visualization tools that can enable users to discover and analyze professional relationships as part of an existing website or in a stand-alone site. Used for a public website, Profiles RNS can be a valuable tool to publicize an organization’s research efforts to potential grant funders, donors, other researchers, alumni, prospective students and faculty, media, and the general public.
